don’t remember the last time it took me 2 weeks to read a whole novel, but that’s how long it took me to to read Ken Follet’s Pillars of the Earth. This edition was about 1000 pages, but I think it would have been just as good of a story (maybe even better, because it would have held my attention) if it was 300 pages shorter. All of that said, I did enjoy reading this book! I love historial novels, and that’s definitely what this was- a historical novel with Christian undertones, including kings, princesss, knights, magic, castles, and cathedrals. Fun stuff. It’s set in Kingsbridge, England in the 12th century and follows a stone mason and his family as he follows his dream to build the most beautiful cathedral ever seen.

I like novels like Follet’s because it has something for everyone- suspense, mystery, battles, magic/curses, romance, religion, architecture, travel/exploration, etc. Plus Pillars of the Earth was a mix of historical accuracy and fictional characters and events.
